President of the TCU

About the Role

The President of the Tufts Community Union is the chief executive officer of the Senate. As such, he or she is responsible for the execution of the TCU constitution and represents members of the TCU to the administration and faculty. The President is the presiding officer at all meetings of the full Senate and the Executive Officers Board, and he is in charge of publicizing and convening the Senate at frequent, set times during the academic year. The President sets the agenda for the Senate with the advice of the Executive Board and is responsible for presenting a report in September, February, and April concerning the direction and progress of the Senate towards the fulfillment of its goals. The President is also responsible for representing the Senate before the Allocations Board.

 

Vice-President of the TCU

About the Role

The Vice President is the second ranking officer of the Senate. He or she assumes the duties of the President in his or her temporary absence and appoints senators to Senate committees and oversees the committees' activities. The Vice President also coordinates the appointments of students to Student, Student-Faculty, and Trustee committees. The Vice President is the presiding officer at all meetings of the General Board as well as oversees the internal workings of the Senate.

 

Treasurer of the TCU

About the Role

The TCU Treasurer is empowered by the TCU constitution to “be primarily responsible for all financial transactions of recognized organizations funded by the Student Activities Fee.” The Treasurer is authorized to approve all Treasury forms and accept all deposits. The Treasurer is the only member of the Treasury who is authorized to use the TCU Treasury credit card. The Treasurer, who sits on the Executive Board of the TCU Senate, also chairs the Allocations Board and may be consulted for assistance in writing budgets, New Group Funding requests, or Buffer Funding requests. The Treasurer will also be responsible for all disciplinary matters concerning the Treasury. The Treasurer will hold at least five office hours per week in Room 216 Mayer Campus Center. Associate Treasurer

About the Role

The Associate Treasurer is empowered by the TCU Constitution to Assist the Treasurer in performing his/her duties. The Associate Treasurer is authorized to approve all forms, aside from the Signatory Authorization Forms, and accept all deposits. The Associate Treasurer serves on the Executive board of the TCU Senate and the Allocations Board. The Associate Treasurer chairs the Allocations Board if, for whatever reason, the Treasurer is unable to attend. The Associate Treasurer may be consulted for assistance in writing budgets, New Group Funding requests, or Buffer Funding requests. The Associate Treasurer will hold at least four office hours per week in Room 216 Mayer Campus Center. Historian of the TCU

About the Role

The Historian records and publishes all public actions of the Senate and serves as a liason between campus media and the Senate. The Historian records absences of all members from full Senate meetings and Standing Committee meetings and ensures that all Senate documents are officially filed with the Senate archives. In addition, the Historian also chairs the Student Outreach Committee.

 

Parliamentarian of the TCU

About the Role

The Parliamentarian of the TCU advises the Senate on matters of constitutionality and procedure, as well as conducts procedural educational sessions for members. The Parliamentarian is the official Senate representative to the TCU Judiciary and presents any new Senate bylaws to the Judiciary for approval. He or she is available as an unbiased advisor for members of the TCU who wish to draft resolutions, constitutions, or bylaws.
