About the TCU Senate
The TCU Senate is the body created by the Tufts Community Union's Constitution, responsible for representing student interests before the faculty, staff, administration, and Board of Trustees, and for regulating and providing support for TCU organizations. While the TCU Judiciary is responsible for recognizing TCU groups, the Senate is granted the fiduciary responsibility of allocating and dispersing the $1.5 million aggregated from the student activities fee to these groups through the budgeting and funding process.
The bulk of Senate activity stems from its committees. The leadership of the Senate consists of a seven-member Executive Board and the Chairs of each committee, which together form the General Board. The Senate works closely with the administration to implement our initiatives.
The full Senate body meets every Sunday at 7 pm and discusses proposals brought to the floor from both Senate members and the undergraduate community at large. To see a schedule/agenda of meetings, as well as guests that will be present, check th Calendar or the Meeting Minutes.
Senate members and other undergraduates sit on a number of university student/faculty committees.
TCU President Sam Wallis set the agenda for the body at the beginning of each semester in his State of the Senate address, which can be found under Reports.
Kate de Klerk, the TCU Treasurer for the 2010-2011 academic year, will also impart her plans for the Treasury in the State of the Treasury report, which can also be found under Reports.
If you're interested in getting involved, remember that the Senate meets every Sunday at 7:00pm, and all Sunday meetings are open to anyone. We want to hear your comments, concerns, and feedback, so check the Calendar for the location of each Sunday's meeting.
