The TCU Senate is an elected body consisting of 35 undergraduate students. 28 senators are elected from each of the four classes, four community representatives are elected from cultural organizations across campus, and three students are appointed to the Board of Trustees by the Senate. The Senate is charged with representing undergraduate interests to the administration, faculty, and all other constituent groups at Tufts. The Senate is given the fiduciary responsibility of allocating the $1.3 million aggregated from the student activities fee to all student organizations on campus.
The bulk of Senate activity stems from its committees. The leadership of the Senate consists of a six-member Executive Board and the Chairs of each committee, which together form the General Board. The Senate works closely with the administration to implement our initiatives.
The full Senate body meets every Sunday at 7 pm and discusses proposals brought to the floor from both Senate members and the undergraduate community at large. To see a schedule/agenda of meetings, as well as guests that will be present, check the meetings page. Senate members and other undergraduates sit on a number of university student/faculty committees.
This year's agenda will be laid out by TCU President Brandon Rattiner at the beginning of the fall semester in his State of the Senate address. Aaron Bartel, the TCU Treasurer for the 2009-2010 academic year, will also impart his plans for the Treasury in the State of the Treasury report. Stay tuned to senate.tufts.edu for updates...
